Unclogging a Toilet

Unclogging a Toilet

  • Clogged toilet bowls can really be a pain in the neck especially when you are busy with your everyday life catching up at work, paying your bills and taking care of your children. It may sound lame but come to think of it, this can be a huge factor to add more stress in your life. Not only that it will waste your time unclogging a toilet using the conventional tools such as clogged drain chemicals and a plunger but the mess that this will cause you when it overflows will really exhaust you.
  • Maintaining a toilet is plain and easy. You just have to take some things into consideration and avoid nasty habits to be able to preserve and take good care of your toilet. In that case you won’t have to go through the hassles of cleaning overflowing water coming from your toilet bowl.

Guidelines to Avoid Clogging Your Toilet Bowls

  • The very first thing that you have to remember and practice is to never, ever throw anything down the toilet that will block your drains such as toilet paper, plastic wrappers, cigarette butts, latex rubbers, cottons and A LOT more!
  • Be sure to clean your bowls regularly with toilet liquid detergent and disinfectant together with toilet scrubs, brushes and be sure that you do this task with rubber hand gloves to protect you from harmful bacteria and germs.
  • Apply if necessary, a cleaning and freshening tablet that you can plunge in the toilet tank so that each time you flush your toilet this will automatically discharge a disinfectant solution that will freshen the water and will come out with fragrance.
  • Also, a lot of people are disregarding this but you really ought to clean your septic tank by hiring a professional at least every eight to ten years or depending on usage and the number of family members. Neglecting this can be a contributing factor to thicken and harden the scum that can block your drain pipes and above all, this is where the entire nasty odor will come from.

What to Do With Your Overflowing Toilet

Why a Tankless Water Heater is The Best for Your Miami Home

Plumbing Troubles?
Call: 1-800-Doug Orr

Tankless Water Heater Miami

Tankless Water Heater Miami

Tankless Water Heater Miami

  • Heating water contributes for up to 30% of a home’s energy charges. Along with that is due to the way traditional hot water heaters operate. The water heater machine stores water in a tank at a specific heat temperature, even if you’re not home or even if you are not using it.
  • This is called Standby Energy Loss and it costs  a lot of money. On the other hand, opting for tankless water heater Miami installation will benefit you from a lot of things.
  • Tankless Water Heaters heat liquid instantaneously with a burner or electrical element as it passes through the unit. No storage tank is required. So, in this way you are not spending so much electricity as you only have to heat water when you have to use it.  Therefore you can save a lot of money!

Advantages of Tankless Water Heaters

  • There are no Standby Losses
  • No waste, the contents are heated almost immediately
  • Unlimited hot water
  • Cleaner, there is no tank so no rust or scale build up
  • A federal tax credit incentive
  • A life span of 20 years, almost twice as long as a traditional heater
  • Space saving, water heaters take a bit of space, tankless devices can be mounted in areas out of the way saving you more space in your home.
Tankless water heaters range in price from $200 up to $1000. You need to consider where you’ll need hot water. You may need a unit that will heat the water at one bathroom sink, this would be a single point application, hot water for an entire bathroom would be a multipoint application. You may want to heat water for an entire house or apartment; this would be a whole house application.

Choose the Tankless Water Heater That Will Benefit You More

  • There are gas-fired and electric models. If choosing an electric unit you’ll have to consider the voltage choices, 120V or 240V and you must make sure the home wiring has the current capacity and breakers meet electrical code.
  • In choosing a gas-fired unit you must make sure gas line, combustion space and venting meet code and regulation requirements.
  • Each single point application will have its own requirements. Capacities are determined by temperature generated at a specified flow rate, an example would be 92 degrees F at 2.5 gallons per minute.
  • Choose the unit that is compatible with the flow rate at the point of demand, for example bathtubs have a flow rate of 2-4 gpm, a shower 1.5 -3gpm, and a dishwasher 1.0-3.0 gpm.
  • You also have the option of a whole house unit that can provide hot water for entire bathrooms, smaller houses, apartments, condos or where multiple points of use will exist.

How to Fix Your Bathtub Faucet in Your Miami Home

CALL 1-800-DOUG-ORR NOW!

Leaking Bathtub Faucet

Leaking Bathtub Faucet

Leaking Bathtub Faucet

The conditions seem tediously familiar. You have a leaking bathtub faucet that drips slowly, but steadily in your Miami home. Apart from the severe drain on your resources, it’s also draining you of your financial health. Being a layman, you don’t boast of the competence to tackle this ostensibly Herculean task on your own. Handles, valves and ‘O’ rings seem too hot to handle, right? So you are left with no other option but to invite a professional plumber to put an end to this drip-drip saga.

I’m sure this account has stirred up some not-so-wonderful memories in you. Well, just in case you belong to this bandwidth, you better get ready to invert that parochial thinking. Fixing that leaky faucet in the bathtub on your own is not as blatantly absurd as it sounds. With a few household tools and a boatload of patience, you can sail into seemingly uncharted waters without any hiccups.

Are you ready to be suffused by a gush of self-worth?

What to Do When Fixing Your Leaky Bathtub Faucet

That’s exactly what this event is often referred to as, especially by homeowners without much plumbing experience. But here’s what you need to do to sort out this recurring problem:

  • Before you get down to business, make sure you turn off the water supply. While in case of faucets in sinks, the valve lies under the fixture, in case of bathtubs, it is the main valve in the house that needs to be turned off.
  • Remove the faucet handle cautiously, by removing the screw that lies under the plastic or metal cap found on top of the handle. Make sure the screw is not misplaced.
  • The stem of the faucet is next in line. Use the correct wrench to undo this part, and that too with utmost care.
  • At the end of this stem lies the villain of the piece, the worn-out washer. Replace this part with a new one; make sure there’s no discrepancy in the size.
  • If, to your utter dismay, you do not find a washer, what’s the next course of action? Simple, replace the faulty stem.

The time of reckoning is finally here. Replace all the parts in reverse order, and wait for the sparkling results with anticipation. Turn on the water supply, and you have an achievement that is second to none. Still believe in those age-old robotic roles?

Call a Professional Miami Plumber for More Complicated Tasks

For more intricate plumbing problems, you ought to call a professional plumber near your area and leave this to them. Never attempt to apply the DIY method as you might end up spending for more. Also, never call a common handyman to mend your plumbing issues if you want a smoother process while your taps are being fixed. Otherwise, you might just be blaming yourself down the road for getting ripped-off and for spending more because the damage just got worse.

Look no further, as the best Plumbing service is in Miami. Contact Douglas Orr Plumbing for your 24/7 emergency plumbing services. Best Way to Unclog a Toilet

Sad to say, a blocked toilet bowl can be a pain in the neck that happens oftentimes in lots of residential house holds. In spite of this, there are different options to unclog your bathroom and drains. So continue reading and understand the Best Way to Unclog a Toilet in your Miami Home!

Nearly all toilet clogs are because of foreign objects caught up in the toilet trap rather than in the drain pipe. This could vary, from a person by mistakenly using excessive toilet paper or maybe other plastic-type components being thrown straight into the toilet bowl. In extreme situations for example, the kids flushing something like a tennis ball down the drainage.

Is Your Toilet Clogged? Let us discuss the Supplies Needed

  • Flanged rubberized plunger – this kind of plunger includes a flange to the end. It’s intended specifically to fit bathroom drain pipe outlets.
  • Rubber safety gloves – make no mistakes because we’re handling waste debris, which makes this a dirty project.

Guidelines to Eliminate Your Toilet Problems

  • Put on your plastic gloves to shield your self away from the waste water.
  • Verify the water level in the toilet, by sticking in the plunger and ensuring that there is adequate water to cover 50 % of the flange. Don’t forget, the plunger flange certainly is the part on the end, which is made to fit into the drain outlet. If there is not adequate water to conceal the flange half way, add some.
  • Place the flange straight over the drain pipe outlet and push all the way down, that could produce a seal.
  • Quickly and continually shift the plunger down and up and be cautious not to slosh the water out of the bowl. If the water starts to drain, then you have effectively unclogged the bathroom .

An effective way to get started on removing a congested toilet is with a flanged plunger. If you have tried out the previously mentioned way, and the clog refuses to shift. It could be sensible to move into a much more powerful air operated plunger. Last but not least if the air aided plunger does not work out, use an auger, before you call a professional plumber.

Plumbing a Bathroom

Plumbing a Bathroom

Most of us think that plumbing a bathroom is easy.

This is oftentimes taken for granted and ignored, until troubles arise in the bathroom  sink or in the toilet.

With a handful of things we have to do on a daily basis, our lavatory or shower area becomes the last thing on our mind to attend to.  So, how do we know what kind of troubles to expect?

Plumbing  a Bathroom

There are a handful of problems that can take place in the restroom, to name a few:

  • Blocked toilet
  • Dripping taps
  • Broken drains and pipes
  • Flooding
  • Blocked drains
  • Clogged shower, bath and sink drains

A lot of things can go wrong in the bathroom so it is vital to be aware of small issues that may grow into bigger problems when left unattended.

READ THESE EASY TIPS!

DIY Tips for Bathroom Plumbing Problems

  • Locate your main valve at home.  This is vital to avoid flooding because of a leaking pipe. Knowing how to turn this off is a major factor to prevent a huge deal of water damage.
  • Detect if you have a leaking toilet.  Add some food dye in your toilet tank and leave this overnight.  If you notice the dye in the toilet in the morning, then there is definitely a leak.  These types of dilemmas should be solved immediately to avoid bigger leaks.  Doing so will also save you time and money.
  • Use a wet/dry vacuum to take out hair, dirt and soap that can build up in your drains.  Doing so will prevent huge plumbing repairs in the future caused by flooding or blockage.
  • Have small plumbing problems repaired as soon as possible.  This will avert the trouble from escalating into bigger issues which may cost more money in the long run.
  • Occasionally, clear out all of your kitchen and bathroom drains. Pour boiling hot water down these drains or use a chemical-based drain cleaner. Cleaning them out will help prevent clogging.

Plumbing may seem to be a less complicated DIY job, but it can be a daunting task if you don’t know your way around the pipes and drainages in the house.  If you think you can solve your bathroom plumbing problems yourself, make sure to turn off the main water valve first.   Check what’s causing the problem.  If you have a blicked toilet, flush it and see how slow it drains.  Take a plunger and use it on your toilet.  If this doesn’t work, you need to look for an opening under the toilet to take the pipe apart.

Simple Guidelines to Garbage Disposal Maintenance for Your Miami Home

garbage disposal maintenance

Lets face it – most of us have a garbage disposal in our homes and we do not treat them kindly. As a matter of fact, we take this household appliance for granted.  By proper garbage disposal maintenance, you will prevent plumbing and drain disasters.

Clogged drains are an inconvenience and garbage disposal repair can be very expensive. Don’t fret, most issues are completely unnecessary. Regular care and maintenance is very easy. If you treat your garbage disposal well it will treat you well, in return.

Listed below are some best practices to follow along with the major don’ts.

Garbage Disposal Maintenance

  • Do keep your garbage disposal clean. Pour a little dish soap inside and let it run for a minute or so with some cold water after washing dishes.
  • Do run your unit regularly. Frequently running the disposal helps with the prevention of rust and corrosion and assures that all parts stay moving. It can also prevent any clogs from building up.
  • Do grind food waste with a strong flow of cold water. Cold water you ask? It will cause any grease or oils that may get into the unit to solidify, so that they can be chopped up before reaching the trap.
  • Do grind certain hard materials such as fish bones, eggshells, small fruit pits, etc. This causes a scouring action inside the grind chamber that helps clean the walls of the disposal.
  • Do grind citrus fruit peelings such as lemons or oranges to freshen up drain smells.
  • Do cut large items into smaller pieces. Put them into the grinder one at a time instead of trying to shove a large amount in at once.

Follow These Steps to Proper Garbage Disposal Use

  • Don’t put anything in the unit that is not biodegradable food. Non food items will damage both blades and the motor. Your garbage disposal is not a trash can.
  • Don’t grind glass, plastic, metal or even paper.
  • Don’t grind anything combustible.
  • Don’t grind cigarette butts.
  • Don’t pour grease, oil or fat into your garbage disposal or drain. Grease will slowly accumulate and impede your garbage disposal’s grinding ability as well as clog drains.
  • Don’t use hot water when grinding food waste. Hot water will cause grease to liquefy and accumulate, causing drains to clog.
  • Don’t grind extremely fibrous material like corn husks, celery stalks, onion skins, and artichokes. Fibers from these can tangle and jam the motor and block drains.
  • Don’t turn off the motor or water until grinding is completed. When grinding is complete, turn off the garbage disposal first. Let water continue to run for at least 15 seconds, flushing out any remaining particles.
  • Don’t put too many potato peels down the garbage disposal. The starches in the potatoes will turn into a thick paste and may cause blades to stick.
  • Don’t put large amounts of food down the disposal. Feed food into the unit a little at a time with the cold water running.
  • Don’t put expandable foods into your garbage disposal. Foods like pasta and rice expand when you add water in a pot; they do the same thing once inside your pipes or garbage disposal and are the cause of many jams and clogs.
  • Don’t grind large animal bones (beef, pork etc.).
  • Although coffee grounds do not harm the disposal they can build up in the drains and pipes over time.
  • Don’t use harsh chemicals like bleach or drain cleaners. They can damage blades and pipes. Borax is a natural sink cleaner and sanitizer that effectively works on odor-causing mold and mildew that accumulates.

Do the Right Steps to Natural Garbage Disposal Care

Here are some natural methods that are good for the environment and very inexpensive.

  • Periodically, take a lemon or orange and toss it into the disposal. The oils and juice from the fruits and peels naturally clean the walls inside the disposal and create a fresh, long-lasting scent.
  • Freeze vinegar in ice cube trays and toss those down the disposal. This will keep your blades sharp while safely killing odor-causing bacteria.
  • For stubborn odors pour baking soda into the drain and let it set for several hours before running the water and garbage disposal.
  • For really stubborn odors, use a safe cleaning product like Borax. Just pour 3-4 tablespoons of Borax down the drain and let it sit for an hour. Then turn on the hot water and flush the borax away.

These are simply general maintenance tips and simple remedies for minor problems. If you try these solutions and they don’t work or if your problem seems to be getting worse, contact your plumber. They are the professionals and have the tools and know-how to address almost every garbage disposal emergency.

Remember to practice the right garbage disposal maintenance to avoid bigger problems.  If ever you encounter some trouble with your kitchen garbage disposal, call Douglas Orr Plumbing at 1800DOUGORR.
